Understanding Video Poker Payout Table

The payout table is a little table displayed above your cards when you are playing video poker. It shows you the payouts for every particular winning combination, and for any number of coins played. Sometimes they aren’t so visible as when you are playing single hand games. When playing multi hand games, you would probably see just the relevant column.

The payout table for RTG 1-hand Jacks or better looks like this: there are six columns, and in the first one the winning combinations are listed. In the next five columns there are payouts for any possible number of coins wagered. Therefore, you can see the winning amount in case you wagered 2 coins and got a pair of Queens, for example. In Jacks or Better the pair of Jacks is the lowest winning pair.

Considering the fact that you can actually choose the number of coins you want to bet by simply clicking the related column, you won’t have to repeat some actions while playing. Only the related column will be highlighted, informing you instantly about all the details of your bet, including winnings.

In online video poker one can wager 1 to maximum of 5 coins, of course, the coins can have different denominations, but the principle remains the same. So, if you win for example 20 coins, you have to multiply 20 with the denomination you chose to play with. If your coin is worth 5 credits, you have just won 100 credits.

Back to the payout table: if you got two pairs, and invested two coins, your payout is 4 coins, if the payout for two pairs with 2 coins wagered is 4 coins, the payout for two pairs with 4 coins wagered is 8 coins. Simply multiply the payout for the winning hand with number of coins.

Well, that simple math cannot be applied for the maximum coins wagered royal flush. It does apply for any other number of coins wagered, but for the maximum bet the situation is a little bit different.

For example, if you bet 1 coin on a straight flush, you will win 50 coins, and if you wager 5 coins, you will get 250 coins. But, if you wager 1 coin on the royal flush, you will get 250 coins, if you wager, let’s say, 3 coins on the royal flush, you will get 750 coins, and if you wager the maximum number of coins, 5, on the royal flush, your payout will be 4000 coins, although the math says it should be 1250 coins.

Considering the things mentioned above, if you hope you will get the royal flush, you better be sure to wager the maximum number of coins.
